AC blowing hot air

3 posts in this topic

I have had this car for a couple of years.  Recently I have noticed that when I have the cool air or ac running that the air is usually very hot air.  There are times where it blows cold air, but that is not very frequent.  The AC was already checked and it seemed to have enough pressure.  Not quite sure where to go from here.

Pressure or refrigerant? Normal pressures are generally 21-28 psi for the low pressure side and 206 - 213 psi on the high pressure side. If either one is excessive or outside of these there is a problem - too much or not enough refrigerant, air in the system, contaminated refrigerant etc. I'd check the belt tension and if there are any leaks. I would imagine likely there is air in the system and/or a contamination.

The pressure not being adequate could be the cause for the issue.  Also I do not usually run the AC, but when the residual air is moving through the vents it is quite hot even when the temperature gage is at the coldest setting.  Would there be any reasoning why there would be hot residual air instead of cooler air when the temperature gage is at the coldest setting and the fan is off?
