Catalytic Converter Removal For More Hp

Recommended Posts

So I have a check engine light for my catalytic converter. Which is probably clogged up like most cars do once over 100 thousand miles. My question is since the 1997 Mazda 626 2.0l has 2 catalytic converters, would it be easier to remove both plus gain hp? Or should I just remove the one and leave the 2nd until it clogs?

If you need the check engine light off to pass inspection, you'll need to replace the bad catalytic converter.  Check the code before spending money on a new one.  It's possible you may just need a new O2 sensor (or two).

If you simply remove the converter, the light will remain on.
