IIRC, it's somewhere on or near the cam gears on the rear bank next to the firewall. It doesn't normally fail, which is why you don't read about it here. I've only read about it on threads about how to switch an earlier engine (or a KLZE) into a 98 or later car, where you have to swap the cam sensor onto the replacement engine.

The camshaft position sensor is underneath the timing chain. It's a shame because the camshaft position sensor itself is 3" wire with small connectors on the end and it costs roughly 70 bucks. However, the labor in taking the timing chain off to get to it quite pricely. I was blessed to find a mechanic that went through the trouble for $400. I got other quote for almost $1,200.00. Well my car doesn't stall and idles rough anymore.
