I think the heat gun would fix those up nicely and without causing any damage. Depending on the results though might want to start thinking about painting them. They do stick out like a sore thumb now. The paint job is amazing. The reflection is beautiful you can see the trees and sky. Amazing job!!! I love the car just the way it is. Looks absolutely perfect with exception to the faded louvers.

I've heard of a product called "back to black" that's sort of like a dye from my understanding, but I haven't messed with it. It seems like that would be something good for the plastic.

The Black Restore stuff from the auto parts stores are a chemical burn process. You would get better results with a butane torch. A dye might work well but I have yet to find a true dye that isn't actually paint other than RIT.

What do you do with the torch, burn the plastic a bit? I've never heard of that process before, but I'm curious.

Well a heat gun or a torch. Same principle. You are basically remelting the top layer of the plastic so that the molecules (including coloring) re-align themselves. Originally the first time I saw it being used was on motorcycle parts then a really dramatic example of a Ford Explorer. The Explorer is a great example because just about half the door panel is made of that dark plastic.

It only works on non-painted plastics that are cast/formed with the colorant inside the plastic (not as a coating). Here's a good real world example.

I got a heatgun. Came in handy when I did the cf wrap on my dash panels. The upper one by the dash with the vents is nearly done. Other one I still need to do, handy comparrison though. Came out well for my first go. Looks better than the boring gray/blue plastic I reckon.

Sprayed my carpet black, its all black now but camreas flat.

P1010359.JPG]

excuse the dirty faded crappy white/beige plastic. Its getting covered in the black microfibre suede, as will the headling.

It could work on the louvers but I dont want to ruin them, so paint it is. Semi-gloss black paint is the go.

I thought it would be a good idea to stikerbomb the inside of my guage cluster - emphasis on thought.

Its okay, it needed a clean in there anyway, I put it back together the way I took it apart and now my tach and temp guages don't work. Everything else does. Pisses me off, am wondering why the hell I wasted 4 hours on the damn thing.

Have a theory with the temp guage - the needle wont move at all, feels stiff The others did move and felt normal, could move them with my finger. Maybe the mechanism is broken?

Tacho stumps me completely - everything is plugged in and being electric it means the gay thing should work, but it isn't.

has else anyone had their dash apart and run into something like this? Although it looks alright I would rather have left it and have everything working.

P1010376.JPG

would rather have left it and have everything working. And I know, I have not finished with the CF wrap yet.

They are both on the right side of the cluster. I'd look for a common culprit. Sorry but you're going to have to take it back out to investigate.

I'll admit that is really good art. It's chaotic but assembled in a way that makes sense. The only bit of it I really don't like is the "cool story bro". It doesn't fit. Maybe the chaotic stickers were appropriate at one time for the car but not anymore. Good decision on changing it. How about a black fascia with red rings to match the red trim around the car or perhaps just red bulbs?

Found the cluster from my parts car and stuck it in, works perfect. Kms are about 11000 less so when inspection time comes in about 2 months or so I'll need my other one working but right now I have tacho and temp again so I dont care. I like stock more so its gonna stay this way.

Finished the cf on the dash. All good now, just needs assembling = easy as.

P1010384.JPG P1010383.JPG

It looks alot better than stock.

Carpet after 2.5 coats of vynil paint. Not terrible, but didnt penetrate as well as I had hoped. Dont care cos I have the chome mats going back in and being black and inside the car no one will really notice. (I hope.)

P1010371.JPG

I started on the headliner

P1010374.JPG

Since it was cardboard backed, I didnt want to try cleaning it. It was very dirty, had tar stains from a previous owner who must have smoked (one of the other 16 lol). There was also small hole toward the rear and some pen marks. Plus I didnt like the color so.....

P1010385.JPG

Now its in soft black microfibre suede, drying. Came out good for my first go. Am liking how the interior is coming along. I thought Id hate it but nah quite enjoying it actually.

So would you be interested in coming to my house in the US and redo the interior in my car? I've got beer... :P

Looking good man, keep it up, seeing other member's builds definitely gives me inspiration to get started on mine...

Yeah man I'll give it a shot if you pay my airfare as well as the beer lol....... I cant do the seats though its the problem. So this is what I am heading towards, although it wont be the same as this, the materials will be.

This is the interior of a 2011 Ford Mondeo Titanium, black leather and velour seats which is what Im heading towards with my ones. Personally I find full leather overkill, hence the velour.

A mondeo is pretty much a new school Telstar, although no longer so closely tied to Mazda's 6 the dimentions are similar.

Im thinking about adding red piping around the seats. Stitching will be done in red. So this is kind of what Im going for. Modern luxury in an old school car.

I have to get the sunroof fixed asap. Its leaking between the roof and the main seal. $950 but I dont have a choice, nothing in junkyards and the company no longer exists.

Havent done much with the interior. Did try on my other set of rims, the ESM globes aka Borbet 'A' replicas. All of them are 16x8" with +30 offset. Will put the on once I get my superlow springs. Maybe add a little stretch and negative camber, nothing crazy.

Anyway....

Also decided that cos my exhaust is breaking its mounts again Im going to go back to the standard rear and run straight pipe instead of the current factory front muffler. So I will have 1x resonator and 1x factory rear muffler. Have heard a car with this = win, louder than stock but less than a bore so no cop troubles.

(It also had a cat, whereas mine was catless from factory.)

post-28190-0-39788100-1335154495.jpg

Im sticking 2 of these on the standard rear muffler.

Wednesday is officially sunroof day. Pretty excited about it, can start putting some interior back in. But it has blown my car allowance so Im just going to work on grinding/rustkilling/painting the little scabby bits on the floor pans and then dynamatting and putting the interior back into the car.

Bought the tips today, hoping they will come in the next 2 days (optimism much). If they come by Monday, I'll send my car to an exhaust shop, get that last muffler cut out and have straight pipe and get them to tack the tips on my my other muffler.

My current muffler has broken the welds on the hangers, making a new hole and is loose on one side. It bangs about under the car and is starting to attract police attention.

It also attracted attention of a really nice young lady who just started working at the gas station I usually go to. She's like "Wow, is that your car?" I just play cool "yeah it gets me from A to B"...... Last week she asked how I was and did some flirting....... I said one day, I'll take you for a ride. This week she fills my car for me. She practically ran over to me lol. I lost my cell a few days back dammit and today she was on forecort, but there were heaps of cars and she was busy so I didn't get her digits. Next week. I just hope she dosen't mind my current "track spec interior" lol.

hasn't quite happened yet.... in all aspects. This came off. While its very ugly it did sound pretty good on the car, deep sound but didn't drone.

And this went on. Problem? Its way too quiet, but atleast this one isnt bashing about under the car. The tips are way too big for it anyway. So Im gonna get something custom made that will have the 2" tips hanging off the end that will look alot better and will be louder than stock.

Going to have them out further and sitting flush in the bumper gap so once I am on superlows they wont scrape (as bad).

Looking great so far. Might I suggest an oval tip to fill in the body kit? Kind of like the Corvette has, I think it's the Corvette anyway. It would look awesome with dual exhaust tips filling in the body kit. :)

Nah man, gonna keep the shiny twin pea shooters and run straight pipe, 80s/shakotan/mild bozo style, well I hope so if its under the stupid 90 db limit. Getting exhaust done next week.

All i did today was an oil change - woke up at almost 4pm lol, worked 12 hrs yesterday and then hung out/went for a drive with some guys from work, got home at 4 am.

I got some old foglights - wish I could say they were Hella or PIAA or something cool, but they are cheap SCA ones.

My car has the new sunroof. $956 it is 1000x better than the old one in every way and once winter comes it will be well worth it. This one is huge, much bigger than the old one, the trimming place had to cut more of my roof to fit it I would reckon.

Found my factory 626 Gt bumper lip for the front so Im going to put it back on. And Im waiting for my yellow tint to come for the foglights.

Sorry Monoxide, I am going to be kind of copying your car a bit with the fogs and factory bumper lip.

Pics tomorrow its freakin cold and 9 pm pics in the dark always suck.
