How fast can that Blaster SS coil recharge?

Cranking out 15,000 RPM is no big deal, motorcycles do it all the time.

Motor cycles have coil on plug also. You can do COP with megasquirt and Honda 700 ?? Coil's.

Really? Any specific Honda 700?

AWESOME!

Thanks for digging up that info, man. I never would have thought to use motorcycle COP ignition.

How fast can that Blaster SS coil recharge? at 10,000 the coil has to fire every .00005 seconds. 1/(10000rpm x 6 cylinders) = 0.000016666666666666.... x 2 (each cylinder only fires once every 2 rotations) = .00005 seconds.

You didn't do the math quite right...it's 10,000 revolutions per MINUTE. That's only 166.6667 RPS, multiplied by 6 [cylinders], divided by 2 [power stroke every other cycle] equals 500. Thus, it needs to operate at 500 Hz.

Take the reciprocal to get the period, or 0.002 seconds.

Okay, so I've been watching the prices on eBay for Honda CBR COP ignition, figured out the mean price, and came up with $175 for a set of eight in good condition with harnesses and shipping. I priced out eight because it's cheaper than trying to buy six, and it never hurts to have spare parts lying around. I'm not sure what else it would take to run them from Megasquirt, so could anyone shed some light on that (RoadRage? Snail?). I read the write-up and couldn't make heads or tails of it, so if I were to try to price anything out, I'd just be regurgitating information.

My knowledge of tuning systems and software goes no further than what I've learned from watching my friend use Uberdata, Crome, and Hondata (really fascinating stuff...) and what I've read in magazines.

Anyone ever try using the [Mazda] Millenia 2.3 supercharged COP? I see these on eBay from time to time as well, and it seems they might actually fit in the head snugly like they're supposed to [being that the engine, although different, is related].

...and sorry, I've never used a Megasquirt. However, a few people I know who have are not very impressed. Flexible, yes...refined, no.

Hm...well he said Millenia S COP ignition wouldn't work, but I went back to read why and found that it was only because of manifold clearance problems. Since this hypothetical engine doesn't have a manifold, I don't see why you couldn't use Millenia S coils. How would you go about running the Millenia S ignition, though? Would you still need a standalone EMS?

I've heard a lot of mixed things about Megasquirt, as well.

I've read somewhere the heads have a different angle where they match the manifold.

Yeah, that's what the guy on Probetalk said. But with ITBs there shouldn't be a reason why it couldn't work, right?

Side note: The guy on Probetalk also said that installing the CBR COP ignition would require removing the VRIS vacuum reservoirs. How would that affect the VRIS system? Would it just be delayed response or something more? Could you use some sort of external vacuum reservoir?

Yeah you could install an external vacuum canister on the firewall I don't think the lag would be noticeable if there was any. I see the error in my Math SnailMan, it was late lol. Vlad, you could use the KJ heads with ITB's and KL Cam shafts fit in KJ Heads.

Has that been confirmed? Because I wouldn't dream of using the KJ heads for simple fact that I don't think those heads would decent enough.

Yeah they bolted a set of KL heads on a KJ and a set of KJ Heads on a KL.

How do the KJ heads flow, though? I've never seen the ports and such on a KJ head, so I couldn't even make a good guess at how they would work with ITBs.

I want to see the head data side by side, combustion chamber volume, shape of chamber, valve size and angle and the flow of the intake and exhaust ports in CFM. I am interested in KJ heads on a KL block personally, but I don't have the data.

I don't think the KJ heads would flow worth a damn, personally. I've been saying for the longest that they bolt up. The only downsides is the crank position sensor and in the V where there's a water passage that needs to be blocked. That's about it. I never had pics to confirm it. I get bored pretty often and start doing random things.

Machine work to have it done properly is way more then 150bucks, for 10k+RPM you would be wise having your crank balanced with your harmonic balancer, and flywheel as an assembly? And you can balance the conrods and pistons yourself if you have a good scale? There is also the machine work for having the heads pressure tested and resurfaced. To build a racing engine be meticulous!!! After I'm done putting my escort together? Im done with front wheel drive vehicles for personal projects. At least for awhile. And do some aluminum V8 projects,  it really is more bang for your buck at least here in the USA. I just want to be scared. Not saying that the car topics would not scare me however $20k said and done. For a BA running engine. Just doesn't fit my working class payroll. Buiding a car to my specifications is already almost a year. I have not documented all of what I have done. But as time goes on and you look at it day in and out you find stuff that is needed that was overlooked, or is going to be a potential failure.  Im not bashing or discouraging anyone. Just be aware that patience and lots of time is also involved in these aggressive engine builds, and it' possible that Yes it was all assembled in a couple weekends? But theres hundreds of hours of research, trial and error to get to that point.
