Where Can I Find The Transmission Dipstick?

8 posts in this topic

I have a 1995 Mazada 626, manual transmission. When I raise the hood and look for the transmission dipstick I can't find it at all.

It's odd. Anyone know where it's located?

ok. stand next to the drivers side fender and look towards the engine. then, to your right near the firewall, you should see a yellow dipstick that is kinda buried down there.

thats the tranny dipstick

I figured there wasn't a transmission dipstick. I've been looking for over a week.

Obviously this is my first manual transmission car.

It's running fine.

I just wanted to check the fluid. How do I check the transmission fluid level without the dipstick?

It doesnt have tranny fluid, it has gear grease.

Its a fluid grease ;)

I have a 4cyl but the v6 tranny should be the same I believe.

The bolt is on the front of the tranny about halfway up, right in the center. Basically find the drain plug, and then follow a line to the front of the tranny you should see a bolt on the front face in the middle I think it was 17mm or 22mm on the 4cyl you have to take the bolt off and look to see if you see fluid up to the level of the bolt. (stupid way to check, but dont worry unless you have a leak there is not likely to be much missing) I changed my fluid for syncthetic a few months back, much better in cold weather, with the old fluid the stick was very stiff for the first few minutes in freezing temps, but with synthetic, it feels good right away!
