Hi Guys, I have a 1999 Mazda 626 LX v4 2.0. It has engine light with Pcode of P1744. I have replaced the gasket and even re-did the compression rings. But this code keeps re-appearing. The car drives OK with this code. Every 300 miles, the code disappears for 300 miles and then reappears again after 300 miles. Few questions: 1. Is it safe to drive with the code P1744? 2. What is the cheapest way to remove the code P1744? 3. After the P1744, how long it takes for the car transmission to die completely, so that I know when to get a new car.
wpharvey posted a topic in 1993-2002 (2L) I4I have a 1999 Mazda 626 LX. I have it because it only has 80K miles on it and is in great shape (little old lady to church thing). Recently a blown tire ripped up the wiring harness. I was able to replace and fix damaged wires by pulling out a harness from the junkyard. Turned out great and runs good. Having said that, now the P1744 code is on and the shifting is a little off. Everything I have seen suggests it is a wiring problem which seems more than coincidental. I have no idea which of the huge amount of wires it is or where to look and check. Does anyone have and thoughts or advice? Possibly information on how and where to look for the specific wiring that is the culprit? A wiring diagram? Is it possibly really a solenoid? Thanks. Any other input or help you can give is much appreciated.
slamman60 posted a topic in 1993-2002 (2L) I4Apart from the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid blinking O/D Light problem, I was wondering if anyone could tell me why my 1996 Mazda 626 LX 2L has been recently starting to lurch and lose power. It will be running fine but then randomly lose power and drop rpm. It gets worse as the car warms up. I first started noticing it whenever I would be accelerating to high speeds, right around 3000rpm, the card would almost hesitate before continuing the climb. Here are the codes I pulled: P0300 - Random Multiple Misfire P0171 - System too Lean (Bank 1) P1131 - HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 1 Signal Below 0.45v (A/F Ratio too lean) P1744 - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Mechanical Fault P1506 - Idle Air Control System Overspeed Detected P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire I was hoping this combination of codes would help someone tell me how to fix this and if its even worth it. Thanks!
