It was so loud coming off, I thought I had lost an axle. It was super hot, so I had to wait for it to cool off before I could pick it up. Can anyone tell me what this is, and if my car is still driveable without it?? I was able to drive it home with no problems, but I'm leary to put it back on the road since I don't know what it is, or where it came from. My car is a 2002 Mazda 626 with auto trans. Does anyone know if there is any difference between standard and turbo FE cylinder heads?

I am going to get the turbo engine rebuilt and have found new complete cylinder heads on the net but there is no indication if they will suit turbo engines. One seller messaged me back and said "all FE heads are the same" but I would rather find out on here first.

I have recently got my hands on a 91 Mx6 Turbo ! it's the 3rd such car i have owned she is in mint condition ! looking to drop some cash into performance upgrades and just looking for some input !

now ... I'm not a mechanic and am just starting to learn the ins and outs of performance cars . I've gone over some threads on here and have seen some wicked ideas, unfortunelty some ( alot actually ) of the details are waaaay over my head.

that all being said , this is my baby !

it has the T-bird turbo upgrade

	coilover suspension

I believe it's 3" exhaust and custom shot out the side ( looks so sick)

and I recently ordered and got in the mail a ECU with the probinator chip that I'm going to throw in , along with a boost controller.

	what I'm looking for :

any other performance ideas , recommendations ,

I've been told that putting a better fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator would be a good plan , looking for suggestions on brand and specs for those.

I've also learned ( to my dismay ) that a BOV on this car would negatively affect it's performance due to the way the car monitors and controls air flow I believe. however from what I gather purchasing a cone filter and a adapter would allow some of the noise from the release to be heard through the filter , so I would like any info on that subject as well ,

or you know , anything else someone would like to throw at me !

	thanks !

Would a delayed speedometer cause different shift points?

https://mazda626.net/topic/47446-would-a-delayed-speedometer-cause-different-shift-points/?do=findComment&comment=399714

Hello! This is my first post and I hope I put it under the right category.

I have a 2000 Mazda 626 LX with 143,000 miles. I have had the car for about three years and it was a family car and was taken care of very well from what I understand. It has a remanufactured CD4E transmission. I cannot say for how long I have noticed this but it has begun to worry me that my shifts from 1st to 2nd are fairly rough, to the point that I can feel the whole car seem to jerk as it settles into 2nd. I am aware that my tranny mount and a couple motor mounts are in need of replacement but from what I understand it would not really cause the jerkiness that I am feeling but more of a jerk when going into reverse or drive from park. I also have noticed that when accelerating from a stop, the speedometer takes a couple seconds to actually start moving. So when I know I am going like 3 or 5 mph it still is set at 0 and takes a couple of seconds for me to physically see it move. The car shifts into second at about 2300-2500rpms from what I was observing tonight(this is the first time I have tried to note the shift points).

I have been to a couple mechanics in the last few months for different reasons, all of which have said that my tranny fluid and engine fluid is in nice condition. The transmission fluid was changed about 15,000 miles ago and it is still perfect in color, and I also replaced the fuel filter about a week ago. I think I have a leak in the valve cover gasket but its minimal and no one has said that my fluid is low..Maybe I will ask them when I go in on Monday for reassurance.

This is a complete random theory that came to my head and I am just wondering if anyone can explain if its normal for the speedometer to be delayed or if you can see that causing any issues. I hate to think that my transmission could be "on its way out" like most people assume when its having hard shifts but this only occurs when shifting into 2nd and all of the other shifts are really quite smooth.

Timing belt tensioner

https://mazda626.net/topic/47431-timing-belt-tensioner/?do=findComment&comment=399655

Do I have to remove the belt in order yo replace the new tensioner arm I would like to just jack up the engine so its slightly tilted to just swap them out without touching the timing?

engine squeaks and overheats

https://mazda626.net/topic/47385-engine-squeaks-and-overheats/?do=findComment&comment=399536

hi folks, im having an issue with my engine over heating and am wondering if anyone could help.

the engine has been squeaking for a while which at first i thought was a belt, although having changed it turns out that wasn't the problem.

the other night i was driving home from work and the engine light came on the dashboard, i checked the engine temperature and it was at the top of the gauge. after i pulled over, all the coolant spurted out from somewhere close to reservoir (i guess there was too much pressure).

as there is squeaking and the engine is overheating, i can only think i need to replace the water pump? or is there something else i should check?

-the squeaking is almost consistent, whether idol or driving, hot or cold engine, although stops sometimes completely randomly

-the squeaking sounds like something spinning quickly (ie. a bad bearing)

thanks in advance to anyone who can give an opinion, times are tough and id hate to purchase the wrong part haha!

engine squeaks and overheats

https://mazda626.net/topic/47384-engine-squeaks-and-overheats/?do=findComment&comment=399535

hi folks, im having an issue with my engine over heating and am wondering if anyone could help.

One day out of the blue my tachometer, speedometer and heat guage simply quit...like stone dead. Can you point out a culprit for this?

I surmise that since all 3 died at once the cause is probably not a fuse issue, since each is probably fused separetly and the likelyhood of all 3 blowing at the same time is in the region of winning the lottery.

Do you think connector? And if so where is it located?

	Any other possibilities?

Have had my injectors reconditioned new dizzy, coil, fuel filter seals and gaskets replaced.

Anyone have any ideas at all? Newbie to the site... This weekend my best friend and I are swapping the head out of my 98 626.

Reason: bad valve seals, Norm(BF) said it would easier to swap the head.

The information that i am searching for is Timing Belt timing and Head bolt torque specs. My friend is a great mechanic and I wouldn't trust just anyone to do the job. With that being said... If anyone has done a head job on a similar car/motor, I would be greatful to hear(warnings and anything else you would like to add) from you..

	In advance, Thank you!

	Jim

When I bought the head, the shop said I must have a 2.2l.

Engine Missing After Distributor Replacement

https://mazda626.net/topic/46616-engine-missing-after-distributor-replacement/?do=findComment&comment=396054

Hello All ! I have just replaced my cracked distributor with a brand new one. It was running great for a day or so, and then i got a bad series of misfires along with corresponding blinking engine lights. It only seemed to happen once the engine warmed up, I had my mechanic look at it, same thing. It didn't act up until way down the road. Could it me a bad alignment of distributor, or could it possibly me something else such as a spark plug, wires, and or fuel injector issue. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance you Mazda gurus !!! I ALWAYS find GOOD help HERE !!! Which is probably clogged up like most cars do once over 100 thousand miles. My question is since the 1997 Mazda 626 2.0l has 2 catalytic converters, would it be easier to remove both plus gain hp? Or should I just remove the one and leave the 2nd until it clogs?

I Have Motor Mount And Transmission Mount Part #'s Lifetime Warran

https://mazda626.net/topic/46526-i-have-motor-mount-and-transmission-mount-part-s-lifetime-warran/?do=findComment&comment=395609

I was curious if people needed this info?
I have the part numbers to all transmission mounts and engine mounts for the 626 v6.
You can get them through any parts store! plus a lifetime warranty.
My car is a 2001 626es 2.5L AUTOMATIC
The brand of mounts are "Anchor." I do know that your major parts place usually stock this brand and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Just let me know if this would be of use and i will edit this with Part numbers and a possible diagram.

In the Haynes manual it just says pry it out with a screwdriver or pry bar. The only relevant video I could find showed the entire axle being removed, including the intermediate shaft and support bearing all as one piece. However, that won't help me since I want to replace the inner CV boot.

I also looked in the 98 European WSM and here is a blown out view:

Here are the instruction I followed to no success:

I also tried prying it out with small crow bar, about the length of my arm, with no success.

Any tips or ideas? My CV axles were blown so I replaced both sides including ball joints and tie rod ends. Now my car is so bouncy it's driving me crazy...I know my struts are old but it rolled alot smoother before the work was done. So now I'm looking at getting struts and springs because it seems like it is the only thing else it could be? I saw on the forum that people are using the Ford probe springs because of availability of anyone selling mazda 626 coil springs.. Any suggestions? Are coil springs supposed to be replaced with new struts?
19 years old 232,500 miles!
Saw a strut kit on Rock Auto for $150
