  1. Frustrated Still

1988 626 2.2 4dr auto non turbo. GF had an accident and took out the front ignition relay and heater fan relay.I replaced them with 30 amp generic wired as follows Relays are pre wired with socket.Relay wires are colored as follows Blue (30) Green (86) Brown (85) Yellow (87) Red (87B) The igntion is wired to the relay "Car wire Color first" Black to Red (87B) Black & Red to Yellow (86) black & Red to Green (87) Black & White to Brown (85) Yellow to Blue (30) The radiator fan still only work s if the sensor is disconnected and the key is on? Is this wired correctly? The Inside heater fan relay is connected as follows (car wires first) Black to Green (86) Blue to Blue (30) Blue & Red to Yellow (87) Yellow to Brown (85) Is this wired correctly, inside fan doesn't work yet. Also near the firewall coming out of the driver side fender is a 4 prong connector that has wires colored Black&Red White&blue White&Red White&Yellow It is not connected to anything but the body shop use the hot to jump the radiator fan to go on ALL the time when the ignition was on because they didn't replace the destroyed relays. What is this for?Does it have anything to do with the problems, no radiator fan no heater fan, and the car starts in Neutral or drive? I have a new head and valves $1500,New timing belt and water pump $530,New tires $240,new exhaust $275,and don't want to junk it.The dealers don't want to work on itand the car really drives well. Also prior to the accident she was getting 30-32 MPG now it's down to 20-23(is it ruunning in closed loop?even though the CEL insn't on?) Sorry for the many questions and long post, but I've been fighting this for a year. Bikey 71 said that generic relays can't be used but I couldn't get him to tell me why? What was the difference between the generic and Mazda relay.Everyone else says a relay is a relay? I'm confused. ripper?ripcbx RIPPER
  2. Need Help

I'm in Montvale NJ (Bergen County last exit on GSP) I have been trying for a year to fix the 3 connectors on my GF's car (damaged from front end colision).Dealer has been unable to help identify the 2 relays and 3'd connector (not sure if it needs a relay, for radiator fan) One fellow has helped from another forum with what wire goes to what connector on the ignition relay so I bought a generic 30amp.But I;m still stuck with identifying the one connector Black with red stripe Black with white stripe Yellow Black If I could see another 88 626 It would help immensley.I would be more than willing to travel to see it and finally get this car back to stock condition.Right now the gas MPG has gone from 30-32 to 20mpg.I think because of the ignition relay (making it run in closed loop?)
  3. Who Has An 88 626?

I am totally useless when it comes to electrics (and alot of othr things, just ask my ex wives a now girl friend) but I think the starting in neutral and gear has to do with the ignition relay not being in the system.I think it works with the inhibitor switch.I also believe that relay has to do with the starter engaging while the car is running and the ignition is NOT in the start position.Although disconnecting and reconnecting the atmospheric sensor disengages the starter? Just have to find out what that one four wire connector does and which wire to hook to which. As soon as the weather clears and the surgery inscission heals I'll be able to put it back together corectly. The whole thing started with my GF smacking up the front of the car and destroying the relays and the radiator fan connector and the body guy jury rigging the thing instead of replacing the relays and connectors. Ps: gas milage has dropped from 30-32 to 20 so I figure it's in closed loop operation (ignition relay?) although theres no check engine light. (new platinum plugs cap rotor and wires didn't help at all)

If you do maybe you can tell me what the third set of wires are and whether they are hooked to a relay (I think they are) The colors of the ones we can't find on the diagram are: Black with yellow stripe Yellow Black with red stripe Black with red dots These 4 wires are in a connector in front of the battery? If you or your dad knw what these wires are for and can tell me which wire goes to which connector in the relay? My other problem is the relays.Heres what baby huey from another forum has helped with The first set of wires matches the IGN relay which is the power source for the fans. Yellow wire to #30, Black wire to 87a, Black with Red stripe to 87 ( Make sure that of the two Black/Red wires, the one you connect to 87 should have 12 volts at all times, even with key off. Wire gauge or diameter may be larger as well. The other Black/Red is a start signal from the starter circuit and should get 12 volts only with cranking.) That other Black with Red stripe wire goes to #86. Black with White stripe to #85 The second set matches the Blower Motor relay ( this is for the interior heater blower). Blue wire to #30. Blue with Red stripe to #87. Black wire to #86. Yellow wire to #85. #87a is unused. The last set of wires is a bit of a mystery. I have as of yet found no relay or even a connector to something else that has that series of wires to it. The only other relay that the diagrams show in that area is the front fog light relay and the wire to it are Black, Black/Yellow, Red/White, and Black/Blue. There is a Red w/ Green stripe wire that is a part of the Inhibitor switch but only sends power to the back up lights when trans is put in reverse. We should try to look into the inhibitor switch problem as well. Not only that it is not safe to be able to start the car in gear but also that if it has been jury rigged and shorting to another wire it could be the cause of the starter staying engaged. It is right up there in the same area as those relays so who knows what was done by the body shop to bypass this.
  6. Temp Guage On Dash

First off, there are NO PULL yards withing 100 miles of me.Second,a dash set would be WELL over $100 (per Find my parts) forget dealer price.Second I have the Mazda shop manual.Doesn't help.Third, the guage has the wORD T.E.M.P> on the guage and the needle sits exactly in the middle of the "E" whether I'm riding or not.Thats the whole reason for asking.Due to an accident the car has 3 relays missing (ignition) ( heater fan) and still haven't found out what the 3d one is for.Guess what,I took the car to the Mazda dealer and THEY COULDN'T tell me what relays to buy to fix it.I have one guy on another board that has helped track down which wires go to which tab on the accessory relays I bought but we're both stuck on the 3'd. He HAS the wiring diagrams from mazda. Sorry if I offended you,but it seems like a dumb answer to buy a whole guage cluster for what could be a ending unit problem OR no problem at all.
  7. Temp Guage On Dash

Oh,you wouldn't suggest any tests BEFORE spending a WHOLE LOT OF MONEY on a new speedometer cluster rather than maybe just finding out theres nothing wrong or just a sending unit is faulty? I gues you change engines when you run low on oil huh?
  8. Temp Guage On Dash

The 55* is degree temp outside not speed, speed was 65mph.
  9. Temp Guage On Dash

My dash guage stays at the middle of the "E" after warming up without the radiator fan being connected. After driving today 55* for 10 miles it still didn't go much above the middle of the "E" even after shutting it off.It does go to O when cold and does move to the "E" when warm but no further.I had the head replaced and don't want to have it fail because the guage is faulty.
  10. Had an electrician guy come and look at the car.He said had to be a relay.Couldn't find anything really in the manuals. He listened to each one (5) on the firewall.Took each one out and each time same problem. Then he disconnected the black thing on the firewall labelled pressure sensor (numbers on it are F-201 small #s 8601 to the right and slightly lower, then E1T11574? Problem went away, starter now shuts off after starting.Anyone have any idea what this switch does? Can't find anything in the manuals about it?
  11. I Am So Screwed

NEW starter alternator and now $200 ignition switch and I still have the starter not disengaging.THis means the wire to the solenoid is being energized somewhere else in the harness. The only hope now is to find which wire goes to the solenoid cut it and splice a new wire in place of it.(can't do a whole new harness). Does anyone know what wire out of the switch is the one that goes to the solenoid on the starter?
  12. What Do These 2 Wires Do

cstarter will not disengage when the key turns it on.The key can be pulled out of the lock and the car will still run even before this problem with the starter.I have now pulled the steering wheel and the switches. The only problem now is there are two wires coming into a connector on the side of the key tumbler on the left side that the solder came undone.I dont know what the wires are for and which wire goes where on the connector? What does this connector control,it is staked on by 2 screws that have locking washers on them the connector is recessed into the left side of the ignition tumbler?
  13. Is there a relay that might be sticking in the ignition causing the starter to stay on ,BEFORE I pull it all apart to replace the ignition switch and tumbler>? Also, how do you remove the horn button on the steering wheel to remove the steering wheel?
  14. 1988 626 Non Turbo Auto 4dr

How hard is it to change the ignition switch on the car?Seems like the ignition switch could be the cause of the starter not disengaging? What do you have to do?
  15. Starter

No christmas present for me! Installed BRAND NEW STARTER and it still won't disengage?Checked flywheel for burs and didn't find any?
