  1. Vibration In Idle

I tightened a screw that went to the throttle. All it did was raise my rpms to 900-1000 in idle, this did help with the vibration. I no longer have the 626. The transmission went out and I gave it away.
  2. Vibration In Idle

Changing the motor mounts did help a little. Also got new tires which helped minimize shaking at high speeds.
  3. Transmission Problems

Will do. Only slips in 1st. Other gears work normally.
  4. Transmission Problems

So i drive it to a mechanic shop today to get it checked out. He tries to drive it and it wont move. Just revs up. He said my transmission is slipping and i need to get it rebuilt or get a new one. He said i might as well call a tow truck, cause it ain't going anywhere. I mentioned some other problematic areas and he said he said he wont do any work unless i get a new transsmission. He said since my car had 190,000 miles on it, he would do nothing bit a new transmission. He said he could do a new converter clutch but it would only temporary fix this issue. Said it is not worth the money. My opinion is he is dumb, thinks he knows everything about cars, because he has been a mechanic for 27 years or so he says. He didn't even pop the hood, check the transmission, or do any diagnostic codes and guess what I drove it home without using a tow truck. not every problem is the same. There are different cars, different makes, different models. and he flat out disrespected Mazda and said bad stuff about them. he must not be a Mazda enthusiasts like me. going to take it to a trusted friend of mine who is a mechanic and see what he says.
  5. Transmission Problems

Thanks for your input. I will take it in next week to get checked out. Is this going to be costly
  6. Transmission Problems

Oops code is the torque converter clutch not the catalytic converter. code is P1744. Also other code is p0708 for the range sensor.
  7. Transmission Problems

Not sure if it is the range sensor, since it only began showing codes after i adjusted it. Please help. I am stuck driving my 95 dodge dakota that gets like 7 miles a gallon.
  8. Transmission Problems

I have a 2001 Mazda 626 i4. Was working fine until Easter and I was driving down our street and it topped out at 20 mph. Rpm gauge went to 2500 and it just reved up without speeding up. Stopped, checked the engine, fluids, etc. All looked good. Got back in my car and tried driving it home. It wouldn't move in drive going up hill. Just revs up. Reverse still function properly. If i have it in drive and coasting down, it will kick into gear. But if it is on a flat service, it will not drive or click into gear, just revs up. It will however drive in reverse. Wasn't running any codes when i took it to AutoZone a few weeks ago. . After reading some forums on here i checked my range sensor. Adjusted it and it wouldn't start in neutral. Re adjusted the range sensor and it starts in park and neutral now. However the check engine light came on. So i drove it to AutoZone less than 1000 ft from my house and they pulled some codes. Obd says catalytic converter clutch, and transmission range sensor now after adjusting the range sensor. Any suggestions on what could be causing it not to shift into 1st gear in drive on a flat service. Fyi it is an automatic. Thanks

everything looks okay. timing belt looked new and all the pulleys look good. idk.
  10. 2001 Mazda 626 I4 Problems

I changed out the harmonic balancer and fixed the timing. The timing was off by several teeth in the upper 2 pulleys. Put everything back together and car started right up, been running strong for about 2 weeks now. Thanks
  11. 2001 Mazda 626 I4 Problems

okay. it has been a crazy week. finally got around to my car. car is not getting any compression. i took the valve cover off, took the spark plugs out, jacked up my car, took the belts off, took the tire off, took the motor mount off, jacked the motor up, took the water pump pulley off and took the bolt off of the harmonic balancer. noticed that the harmonic balancer is broke. you can rotate it by hand. look like the gasket in the pulley is broken. ordered a new harmonic balancer from eBay and i am waiting for it to come in. in the meantime i am wondering if my car got out of timing. looked up different sites about timing on my car but and finding several different pictures of the timing marks and don't know which diagram to follow. when i put the new harmonic balancer on i will update here on what happens. a friend also told me that it could be a blown head gasket. i am thinking it is out of timing. is there anywhere i can find the right diagram to see if the timing is off
  12. 2001 Mazda 626 I4 Problems

sorry it took me a while to get back on here -phone was saying site was down. anyways, so i took the oil cap off and had my wife attempt to start it, and i did see movement. as far as DJDEVON, i am not sure what it is supposed to sound like normally, not sure if it is working either. is there a way to simply check the starter to see if it works without first removing it
  13. 2001 Mazda 626 I4 Problems

while attempting to start the car, the crankshaft pulley does rotate. but not sure if it is moving fast enough to control all the accessories. after looking on this site for related problems, think i might want to check the starter.
  14. 2001 Mazda 626 I4 Problems

okay. last night i took all the belts off and tried to start it, and it would not start with the belts off. thinking the battery may be dead, i got a battery charger and left it on the battery for about 4 hours, then tried to start it and it would not start. i got a pair of jumper cables and hooked them up and it still would not start. not sure what is going on. so i put both belts back on and tried to jump it off and still nothing.

Could tightening them too tight cause the pulleys to not rotate like they should because I had them really tight
