I just bought leater seats for the inside of my car and I want to know how do I tell the difference between leather and Vinyl.

The seats feel too smooth, like it doesnt feel like leather, but on the driver's seat the material is cracking. And I know Leather cracks. So I'm not really sure if I got ripped off or not. How do I tell the difference?

Thanks in Advance

Look underneath the vinyl/leather. The underside of vinyl loks like woven cloth; the underside of leather looks like suede.

On the other hand, if you can't tell the difference, does it really matter? (Though perhaps leather lasts longer and breathes better.)

when the seats are hot the leather usually cools down faster when you sit in it than the vinyl ones do

Use some leather conditioner on your seats (meguires works for me) .. if the material gets soft and loosens a bit you got some leather seats man.. if its vinyl , that conditioner will NOT absorb into the seat .. it would belike rubbing lotion on a pool raft instead of your girlfriends skin which would swallow it... the conditioner i mean :blink:

:lol:
Vinyl = Plastic
Leather = Rawhide

Very easy to tell the difference
And yes vinyl will crack like leather

I feel like newbie, I really can't tell the difference.

The reason why I want to know so much because I got them off of ebay and I want to know before I can't return them.

Okay I bought that meguire's leather stuff and it rubs and it feels slightly softer.

I also unzipped some of the seat and it feels like cloth, very cobweb like.

Also it's really really smooth, because you can just slide across.

They look like these seats.

the cloth test doesnt work because theres a cloth layer they put over it after the skin is cured, but id say take a lighter to it, but yeah.. lol

Yeah, they might look like those seats, but those are not actual pictures. If the ebay seller stated it was leather I would say it is then.

I cant see the pic :angry: :angry:

Ahhhh holy sh*t it magically appeared after I complained.....wow :biggrin:

And those do definatily look like leather...the ridges in the middle of the seat are a very good indication of leather. I dont think I've ever seen a car manufactuerer put those ridges with vinyl seats... I dont think its possible

Yup they are leather for sure they look exactly like the ones from my 02 ES.....hummmm I wonder where the seller lives -_-

The seller said that they came from a mazda 626 1999. They are very slippery leather seats though. Anyone have any tips to make them nice and soft?
